Yes, I’m recommending you create another list.
If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know I recommend every employer create their own Unique Employment Proposition (UEP) — a list of the top 10 reasons STARS* should want to work for the organization as well as a list of the top 10 reasons STARS stay with the company year after year. Both of these lists are fabulous recruiting and hiring tools.
Now I’m recommending a third list — the top 10 reasons why your organization exists and why you and your people are so engaged and eager to get to work each day. Why another list?
Because The RIGHT person wants to be a part of something bigger. The RIGHT person wants a job that requires something more of them than just clocking in and out. And, at the end of the day, the RIGHT person wants to know they have made a contribution that counts.
This list then becomes a fabulous hiring and retention tool too. Share it when you make an offer of employment and again during your first meeting with each new employee on their first day on the job. (See The Five Firsts: A Simple System to On-board, Engage, & Retain Top Talent.)
*STARS are Self-motivated, Talented, Accountable, Responsible, and Stable
