As I’ve written here before, all of us are really just little kids in adult bodies and all of us are trained from childhood to be recognition-addicted. That’s why recognition is such a powerful employee motivation and retention technique. Are using all of these… ?

  1. Peer-to-peer
  2. Team-based
  3. Event-based (employment anniversaries, birthdays, etc.)
  4. Results-based
  5. Social media

One caveat: Recognize people the way they want to be recognized; one method does not fit all. Some people hate being in the spotlight while others love being the center of attention. To some, paid time off would be preferable to a gift card.
